Basic oral hygiene
Good dental care requires a joint effort between the patient, hygienist, and dentist. Your team works together to preserve the quality of your oral structures. As the patient, your role is to follow proper oral health habits at home. Positive oral hygiene includes:
- Brushing your teeth after meals or at least twice per day
- Flossing once per day
- Rinsing with mouthwash or using oral irrigator
- Replacing your toothbrush every 4-6 months
- Visiting your dentist for routine examinations twice per day
The importance of dental cleanings
Routine dental examinations are used to deep clean your teeth and to check for problems. With regular visits to the dentist, if problems do arise between visits, they are caught and addressed early before they have a chance to develop into larger issues.
