Welcome back to Sherway Dentistry.

We're thrilled to share good news with you! We were given the go ahead by regulatory authorities allowing us to resume seeing patients at the office for all dental appointments. This includes fillings, crowns, hygiene, orthodontics, Invisalign, cosmetic procedures, dentures, etc.

We've made significant changes to how we manage patient flow and our office protocols for patient treatment - all with the sole purpose of ensuring you and your dental team remain safe by minimizing the risk of spreading the virus. These changes include physical barriers, allowing one person in the waiting room at a time, closed treatment rooms when required, air purifiers, enhanced PPE for patients and staff, and more.

There are new guidelines for patients as well. These include pre-screening before your appointment, hand hygiene, wearing a mask, and maintaining physical distancing. Details will be shared with you before your visit and also on our new COVID/Patient Safety page on our website.

We're excited about the changes to make your visit as safe and convenient as possible.

Our team is contacting all patients to reschedule missed appointments. If you need an appointment immediately, kindly contact the office at 416.639.2546, and we'll get you in as soon as possible. As you can imagine, we have a backlog of cancelled appointments from mid-March and your continued patience and understanding is truly appreciated as we get back and into a new routine at the clinic.

Thank-you for your patience, understanding, and words of support during the closure. We can't wait to see you again soon!

Dentists in Etobicoke, ON share tips to avoid an emergency

posted by

If you ever have a dental emergency, you can count on the team at sherway dentistry for prompt, compassionate care. However, we'd rather help our patients in the Mississauga and Etobicoke ON area avoid the panic, discomfort, and unforeseen expense of urgent treatment. Our dentists, Dr. Tuli and Dr. Pavelic offer this sound advice to help dodge unexpected dental problems.

Common causes of dental emergencies

Most dental emergencies are either an immediate or latent result of trauma. For example, you might dislodge a tooth playing touch football, and need attention right away to save it. Or, you could take an elbow to the mouth on the basketball court. Your teeth seem fine, then months or years later you wake with acute pain and a swollen face – an abscess requiring root canal therapy.

Simple steps to avoid urgent dental care

  • Wear a custom-fit mouthguard anytime you participate (including practice sessions) in a contact sport, or a recreational activity that might involve a fall such as bicycling or horseback riding.
  • Do not bite down or directly into very hard foods like raw carrots, un-popped corn kernels, or hard or chewy candy.
  • Don't chew on ice, pens, fingernails, or other hard objects.
  • Teeth are made for grinding food – use other appropriate tools to open product packaging or cut string.
  • Practice good oral hygiene. Brush after eating. Limit between meal snacks, soda, and sweets. Floss before bedtime.
  • Maintain regular visits to sherway dentistry for cleaning and examination. Our dentists can usually detect a potential problem early, before it becomes severe, painful, and expensive.
A dental emergency can occur, despite your best preventive efforts and ours. Please do not hesitate to call our office at 416.639.2546. sherway dentistry is open until 9:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday.
