Compare Invisalign treatment with conventional braces with dentist near Mississauga, ON
posted by sherway dentistry
When patients near Mississauga, ON are faced with misalignment of the teeth, they may feel as though conventional braces from an orthodontist is the only treatment option available to them. Thankfully, with continued advances in orthodontics, patients now can align the smile in another way. We encourage patients to compare various methods of treatment available at sherway dentistry including Invisalign and Six Month Smiles.
Six Month Smiles
Six Month Smiles is like traditional braces, as it uses brackets and wires, but these are tooth-colored and have self-ligating wires that quickly reposition the teeth near the front of the mouth. However, patients who have mild to moderate misalignment of the teeth and bite may be better suited for solutions such as Invisalign.
What is Invisalign?
Drs. Shefali Tuli and Mislav Pavelic explain Invisalign as clear aligner tray therapy. Invisalign is used for patients to improve bite alignment while also addressing the alignment of the dental arch. Invisalign is highly desirable for many reasons. It is:
The trays used for Invisalign are made of a smooth, high-quality plastic that fits over the dental arch and provides gentle force for repositioning. Patients wear the trays two weeks at a time and progress through the series over the course of several months to achieve the desired alignment of the smile.
How does it work?
Patients undergo a series of impressions which are digitized and sent to Invisalign laboratories. Professionals use these impressions to create a series of trays to reposition the teeth. The series of trays vary in number based on the severity of the misalignment. The trays are sent to the dentist at sherway dentistry and patients return to the office to pick up their trays and learn about how to use them. Each tray in the series is worn for two weeks as the teeth progressively move into better alignment.
What about compliance?
Because the Invisalign aligner trays are easy to remove and replace, it does leave compliance up to the patient. If patients do not wear their Invisalign trays as advised, they may experience delays in achieving the smile of their dreams. Also, they may incur extra costs if they need to have a new series of trays made because of their noncompliance. Patients who undergo Invisalign need to be serious about achieving the results and wearing their trays day and night to see the results in the desired period.

How do you care for Invisalign aligners?
Invisalign aligners are easy to pop out of the dental arch, allowing patients the chance to clean them with a toothbrush and toothpaste. They can also soak them in a cleaning solution as well when they are not wearing them. A big benefit of using Invisalign is the ability to remove the trays and brush and floss the teeth as usual. Some patients who have braces may notice it is difficult to take care of the smile with the brackets and wires in place, putting patients at risk for developing cavities and periodontal disease.
Compare Invisalign to traditional braces
Invisalign has several advantages for patients to consider when they are thinking about using aligner trays instead of bracket and wire braces.
- Invisalign is fast and provides results in a year or less for most patients.
- Invisalign is comparable in cost with braces.
- Invisalign is removable, making it easier to clean the teeth and trays.
- Invisalign is comfortable, eliminating scratching and irritation of the soft tissues in the mouth as found with traditional brackets and wires.
- Invisalign is clear, and others rarely notice that patients are wearing their aligner trays during the day.
