Take-home whitening with Philips Zoom NiteWhite or Philips Zoom DayWhite delivers powerful, clinically proven ingredients to whiten your teeth effectively. However, it is a gentler option than chairside treatment for patients who are concerned about whitening gel-related sensitivity. At Sherway dentistry, we offer both in-office and take-home options for dental teeth whitening at our Etobicoke office.
Professional teeth whitening
All Philips Zoom whitening products are formulated with either hydrogen peroxide or carbamide peroxide. Both of these ingredients have been clinically proven to remove stains and lighten the colour of the teeth. Over-the-counter whitening kits and other products that claim to lighten teeth may not be formulated with hydrogen peroxide or its derivative, carbamide peroxide. The whitening agents used by professional dentist like Dr Shefali Tuli also contain a higher concentration of peroxide than those agents available to buy at the store or online. That means professional teeth whitening contains powerful and sufficiently-concentrated ingredients to penetrate the microscopic pores where the staining pigments reside. Each time you drink pigmented beverages or eat pigmented food, such as coffee and spaghetti sauces, those pigments are deposited into these tiny pores. The effects of aging on enamel and other factors can also hasten the development of stains and make teeth appear yellow. Tetracycline and other medications or products can produce unique types of discolouration, too, such as a characteristic blue-grey hue.
The Zoom process
Zoom in-office whitening gives almost immediate results after a single, 45-minute visit. The secret is in the application of an LED lamp. The light from this device accelerates the whitening action that is produced by the peroxide-based gel. Your dentist assures safety and comfort throughout treatment. Your mouth and gums are protected. So, the gel is only applied to your teeth. We also use specialised products to reduce sensitivity and to protect enamel post-treatment.
DayWhite and NiteWhite, our take-home treatments, involve applying a peroxide-based formulation to the teeth with customised whitening trays. The trays fit well. So, they don’t irritate your gums and the rest of your mouth. We’ll provide detailed instructions on filling the whitening trays with gel and how and when to wear the trays. Generally, DayWhite involves applying a hydrogen peroxide-based gel each day for around 30 to 90 minutes, as advised by your dentist. NiteWhite’s carbamide peroxide-based gel may be worn longer or overnight. You are also in the “driver’s seat.” Continue to wear the trays until your teeth are as white as you’d like. Whitening can be completed in days or a few weeks.
